How to take, edit and share a screenshot

Capture, edit, and share screenshots straight to your Workspace. 📸

With screenshots on Loom, you can easily capture, edit, and share images with the rest of your team and beyond. Just as we create instant URLs for each video you record on Loom, we create shareable URLs for each screenshot you take on Loom as well. Each screenshot you take in Loom lives in the Screenshot tab of your Loom Library for easy access.

Capturing a screenshot

👉To take a screenshot you must have the Loom Desktop app installed. Screenshots are not supported on Loom's Chrome Extension.

You have two ways to capture a screenshot:

Option 1: Use your pre-recording menu;

When you open the Loom Desktop app, click on your capture mode options and then Screenshot. You will then be able to drag and select the part of your screen you want to capture.

Option 2: Use your keyboard shortcuts

For custom-size screenshots, use the cmd + shift + 1 (Mac) or ctrl + shift + 1 (Windows) keyboard shortcut. You can change the shortcut in your Desktop app settings if you want.

Editing a screenshot (Private Beta)

⚠️ Please note: the editing tools listed below are currently only available to a small group of users in a private beta.

You have multiple annotation tools at your disposal to highlight specific aspects of your screenshots. To utilize these tools click '✏️ Edit Image' button top right-hand corner of your Screenshot page:

  • Text annotations: Click the "Tt" icon to start typing. Your text will appear immediately, and you can reposition it by clicking and dragging. To change the color, select the desired color from the color swatch.
  • Rectangles: Rectangles are perfect for highlighting specific parts of an image. Click the rectangle icon in the tools panel, then click and drag to create the desired shape. You can also change the color using the color swatch.
  • Arrows: Arrows are great for drawing attention to particular details in any image. To get started, click the arrow icon and drag to create an arrow. The arrow will automatically shape itself in the direction you drag.

All annotations/edits can be repositioned. After placing an annotation on your screenshot, you can click and drag it to move it or adjust the points on the ends to reshape it.

You can also modify the color of any annotation, by clicking the color swatch in the tool panel and selecting your preferred color. You can do this either before you place the shape, or after it is already on the screenshot.

Once you're happy with your edits click 'Finish' in the top right corner. ✔️

Sharing a screenshot

Once a screenshot is taken, Loom automatically opens it in a new tab with a shareable link. You can also toggle this on and off in your Desktop app Video and audio settings.

The link will also be automatically copied to your clipboard. You can then send the link to your team to view, just as you would a normal video on Loom.

Downloading your screenshot

To download your screenshot, click the download button next to the sharable link. You can also delete your screenshot from your library, and change its title.

Additionally, if you plan on taking screenshots from Loom and using them in other applications, the standard copy-and-paste functions work as expected for moving images without saving.

What happens if my Screenshot fails to upload?

If your Screenshot has been stuck uploading as seen in the image below, we unfortunately will not be able to recover the Screenshot. To avoid mishaps like this, we suggest the following:

  • Make sure you're on the most up-to-date version of our Loom app/or Chrome extension.
  • Make sure you're connected to a strong and stable connection (at least 5mbps upload speed), check here: www.speedtest.net.
