How to upload or import videos

Stay organized with the rest of your team with a centralized library. 🖥

Business, Business+ AI and Enterprise users can create a library of knowledge and resources for the whole team by importing videos in addition to creating new ones.

Please note

Video uploading is only available to users on Loom's Loom's Business, Business+ AI or Enterprise plans. This is not available for Business Trial or Starter-free users.

How to upload

You can upload both videos you've recorded on Loom (and then downloaded to your computer) and videos you recorded somewhere else.

To add an existing video to your library, click on New Video in the top right of your video library and select Upload Video. You'll be prompted to drop in or browse your videos.

Your videos will keep uploading even if you click out of the upload modal—they'll only stop if you cancel the upload. Videos that are large in resolution, size, or duration will take longer to process and may remain in a processing state after uploading.

Media specifications for uploading videos

Loom currently supports the following media specifications:

Container Supported containers: MV, AVI, WEBM, MP4, MOV (Up to 4GB)
Video Codec: H.264, Frame Rate: 30 fps, Bitrate: Variable bitrate.
Audio  Codec: AAC, 48kHz, Channels: 1 Channel (Mono), Variable bitrate.
Resolution Up to 4K video (360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 2160p)

Loom encodes the video and makes it available in all resolutions starting with the originally recorded resolution down to 480p.

If you're having trouble uploading your video, check that it meets the requirements above.

You may receive a Failed to process message after attempting to upload a video. This most often occurs because the file is over 4 GB, its frames per second are over 60, or its resolution is over 4096 x 2160.

💡Uploading limitations

  • Loom limits uploads to 4 GB or 12 hours, whichever is less.
  • There is no limit to how many videos you can upload. However you can upload up to 10 videos at a time.

How can I consolidate my video library if I have videos across different Loom accounts?

If you've got videos in multiple Loom accounts, you can use the Upload feature to transfer videos from one account to another. Simply download your videos from one account, then log into your preferred Loom account and upload the video here. If you'd like to then delete your unused account, this article will show you how.

👉 All videos downloaded from Loom will be in a .MP4 format.

Trouble uploading a video?

If the file you want to upload to Loom is not supported, or even if the quality of the uploaded video doesn't turn out quite right, try running your video through Handbrake.

HandBrake is a free tool that allows you to convert video from nearly any format to a selection of widely supported codecs. We recommend exporting your video using the media specifications in the above table (H.264/AAC to .MP4 file.)

FAQ

Can I upload external videos using the IOS and Android app?

Yes! Both Loom's IOS and Android apps will allow you to upload videos if you have a paid role on a Business, Business+ AI or Enterprise plan. To upload a video from your camera roll, you'll want to open the Loom Mobile app and click the 'photo icon' from your pre-recording pannel.
