Rewatch to Loom content migration: post-migration FAQs

⚠️ Please note: This article only applies to customers who migrated from Rewatch to Loom

My imported videos don’t have transcripts.
  • Confirm your video has audio.
  • If it does have audio, you will find a Generate button on the right-hand side Transcript tab on videos where the transcript was not yet generated. Depending on the size of the video, it may take some time for the transcript to generate. generate.png
Some videos are showing as shown with a loading bar or “Processing Error” or a loading bar.
During the migration, some videos may still appear in a Processing state. The videos with this error are:
  • Still processing. In most cases processing should complete within two days.
  • Audio-only recordings. Unfortunately audio-only recordings are not supported in Loom. We can provide a list of videos affected so that you may delete or archive these recordings.

If you still see videos in this state after two days, please reach out to your Loom account rep or our Support Team via this form.processing.png

The videos are not in the folder I expected. Where are my videos?

We recommend searching for the video (tip: put the video’s name in quotes in your search!) and then from there you can move the video to a new Folder of your choice! In Rewatch, a video could be part of multiple Rewatch Collections. However in Loom, a video can only live in one folder. During the content migration, videos belonging to multiple public Rewatch Collections were:

  • placed in the owner’s My Library, and
  • shared to a Folder in the Rewatch Import Space in Loom.
    • We determined which single Loom Space Folder to share it to by selecting the earliest-created, non-secret Rewatch Collection and placed it in the corresponding Loom Folder for that Collection.
    • This may mean the folder we picked was not the one you were expecting.

Why do I have empty folders?

In Rewatch, a video could be part of multiple Rewatch Collections. However in Loom, a video can only live in one folder. We created all public Rewatch Collections as Loom folders in the Rewatch Import Space, so you can move your Looms to a different folder than the one we selected. As a video could belong to multiple Rewatch collections but only one Loom Folder, empty folders are a possibility. You are welcome to delete those folders if they are not helpful. If you can’t find your video that you expect in an empty folder, see The videos are not in the folder I expected. Where are my videos?

Why doesn’t the content organization match Rewatch?

Loom and Rewatch have fundamentally different organization and permission options, which unfortunately means that how you organized your content in Rewatch will not 1:1 match in Loom. The content was organized to best ensure that permission levels being granted in Loom for your content and to avoid unauthorized people from having access. If you need to move content you can use the built-in movement options outlined here: https://support.loom.com/hc/en-us/articles/7691071915677-How-do-I-move-a-folder-or-video-into-a-Space

Where are the custom thumbnails I set in Rewatch for my videos?

Custom thumbnails could not be imported to Loom. If you would like to set a custom thumbnail in Loom for your videos, you can do so by following the instructions here: https://support.loom.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002241077-How-to-add-a-custom-thumbnail

Why aren’t my Rewatch video links redirecting to the new Loom location for the video?

Redirects could not be supported in our migration. We are aware of interest in this and our team is exploring this as a follow-up to the migration.

Why didn’t my Audio-only Rewatch recordings come over to Loom?

Loom doesn’t support Audio-only videos, so the importer cannot process these and they will continue to show as in a Processing state. If you need a list of content in this state, please reach out to our team.

What is the expectation for how Rewatch content mapped to Loom?
Here’s how we migrated Rewatch data to Loom:
  • For ALL videos, any direct sharing to internal and external users will be retained.
    • Note: Our importer will err on the side of over-privacy of data when sharing. This could result in a video not being shared with a user it was previously shared with in Rewatch. In these cases, the video can be shared with the desired people in Loom
  • Public videos in Rewatch Collections will be moved into a single Loom “Rewatch Import” Space, visible to all workspace members, with Rewatch Collections organized into Loom Folders to maintain accessibility for your team.
    • Note: While we will recreate Rewatch Collections structure as closely as possible, Loom videos can only live in one Loom Folder (Loom Folders do not support the exact same structure as Rewatch Collections, which allowed videos to live in multiple Collections).
    • Note: we cannot programmatically add users to Spaces, which means we will not be adding users to the Rewatch space as part of the migration. The Space will be visible to all users via browsing and the workspace can add whoever they would like post-migration to the space.
  • Videos from users’ Rewatch Libraries will be migrated to the individual user’s private My Library in Loom in a Rewatch Import - Private Loom Folder.
  • Private videos not shared to Rewatch Collections will also be moved to the individual user’s private My Library in Loom in a Rewatch Import - Private Loom Folder.
  • Private videos in secret Rewatch Collections will be transferred to the video owner’s private My Library in Loom in a Rewatch Import - Private Loom Folder in order to safeguard privacy.
    • Note: Any Collections-based access will no longer be retained and will need to be reshared. For most customers, private videos in secret Rewatch Collections account for a small percentage of their overall Rewatch videos.
Note: It is possible that a duplicate folder could be created during the import - if this occurs, the folders can be merged.

Here’s how we migrated Rewatch Users to Loom:
  • Any existing users (those with the same email in Rewatch and Loom) will be given ownership of videos they own in Rewatch
  • Any active users in Rewatch that own videos, who don’t have a corresponding account in Loom, will be created in Loom with a Creator license (customer should note that this will incur additional seat charges)
  • Any users who were deactivated in Rewatch at the time of the data export from Rewatch will not be created in Loom
    • Any videos they owned will be assigned to the Primary Admin designated by the workspace
